  3. LEON WARE - Musical Massage LP - LTD

Musical Massage is very similar to Marvin Gaye’s I Want You, not even incidentally: Leon Ware had just produced Gaye’s album, and a lot of the material from his own record went there. So you can expect a similar ‘‘musical massage’’ of the erotic type as I Want You. With glorious featuring as Minnie Ripperton, Bobby Womack, Ray Parker Jr. or Marvin Gaye himself…this album is just wonderful! Learn More

  9. Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston ‎– Take Two LP

"It Takes Two" was a hit single recorded in late 1965 by Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston for Motown's Tamla label. Produced by Weston's then-husband, longtime Gaye collaborator William "Mickey" Stevenson, and co-written by Stevenson and Sylvia Moy, "It Takes Two" centered around a romantic lyric which depicted many things in life (dreams, love, wishes, etc.) being better with two people instead of one. The single became Gaye's most successful duet single to date, later outperformed by Gaye's duets with Tammi Terrell. Gaye and Weston's duet peaked at #14 on the Billboard Pop charts and #4 on Billboard's Soul Singles chart in January 1967. "It Takes Two" was also Gaye's first major hit in the UK, where it peaked at #16 on the British singles charts in the spring of that same year. Also in 1967, soul singers Otis Redding and Carla Thomas covered the song for their duet album, King & Queen. Learn More

  10. Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – United LP

Of the numerous ‘duet’ albums Marvin Gaye recorded (including two other sets with Tammi Terrell), 1967’s “United” was probably the most consistent and enjoyable of the group. Terrell was clearly the female partner with whom Gaye had the most chemistry and it showed throughout about two thirds of the album; the other third falling victim to Motown’s typically lame efforts to attract a MOR white audience. At least on record the decision to put the two together was almost magical. Terrell didn’t have the world’s greatest voice, but she knew how to use her talents and she was a perfect partner for Gaye adding a sassy element to his cool, controlled performances. Co-produced by Harvey Fuqua and Johnny Bristol, the two producers had the insight to recognize that Gaye and Terrell would be best suited by an upbeat, soul-oriented sound. As a result they managed to keep Berry Gordy’s affection for over-produced slop to a minimum. *Release-date: 11th of February Learn More
